                             What is Massage Therapy?

Massage is a system of stroking, pressing and kneading different areas of the body to relieve pain, relax, stimulate and tone the body. Massage works on soft tissue to improve muscle tone. It also stimulates blood circulation and insists the Lymphatic system improving the elimination of waste throughout the body.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage can help release chronic muscular tension and pain. It improves circulation, increases joint flexibility and reduces mental and physical fatigue. It also decreases stress levels, improves posture and reduces blood pressure.

Massage is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an over all sense of well-being.

    Is massage therapy a luxury?

This is a perception that is rapidly changing as massage becomes increasingly accepted as a natural part of a healthy lifestyle. In fact, according to one media characterization, "massage is to the human body what a tune-up is to a car". Just as your car needs regular maintenance, so do our bodies. It provides a physical boost to the weary, sore and stressed. An increasing body of clinical research confirms that massage reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion, boosts the immune system, and increases endorphins.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If your practitioner wants you to adjust your position, she or he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

How will I feel after the Massage?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long term aches and pains that develop from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days, since toxins are released from your muscles during a massage; it is recommended you drink plenty of water afterward.
